0000452: Notifications/subscriptions too complex for end user

Description

In the forum post http://www.sigmah.org/node/567 [^] , a user has clearly reported that she doesn't see how she could subscribe to get notified for each post on the forum.
It is true that the notifications/subscriptions area of the user profile management is very complex and confusing. It should be totally redesign to respond directly to user expectations with simple and direct questions.

Additional Information

A discussion between spM and osarrat has concluded the following detailled behavior for this feature.
First of all, user should be able to choose between a simple and an advanced configuration of his notifications. By default, when opening the notifications tab of his user profile, he should be in front of the simple configuration page.
Secondly, a user should be able to go through the forum and selects forum topics he would like to follow. Followed forum topics should have the same behavior regarding notifications as forum topics on which the user has contributed.
The advanced notification configuration page is actually the current one with all the available options.
The simple configuration page should offer 4 levels of notification to the user:
- level 1: get notified immediately of new posts on forum topics to which the user has contributed
- level 2: level 1 + daily digest notification of all new posts on the forum
- level 3: level 2 + immediate notification of new forum topics (but no immediate notification of new forum comments except on forum topics followed)
- level 4: immediate notification of all comments and new forum topics

[^] I posted a link in my note in the issue, which showed how it would look like after we are done with addition of this feature. One Green Button with "Follow" written on it !! and you are done :) I think I should include this also in my GSOC proposal . :)

(0001041) osarrat (administrator) 2012-08-14 17:22	Mockup for the screen (include the Pencil .ep source file (Pencil is an extension to draw mockup for Firefox)) The exact design of the screen can be modified. Note: merge the 2 tabs "subscriptions" and "notifications" into a single one named "notifications" (subscriptions seems more appropriate for a newsletter, and newsletter management is already in the user edit page).
