3.2. Organisational units (i.e. Mission, Base, Desk, etc.)

Submitted by pbrunet on Mon, 06/06/2011 - 12:54

An organisational unit is a branch of an organisation in an operational field. Humanitarian organisations generally have more than one organisational unit. These organisational units correspond to the organisation’s different hierarchical levels in a crisis zone.
Traditional organisational units are HQ, Desk, Mission, Base, etc. For example, there may be an Asia Desk, a Pakistan Mission, a Bukavu Base, etc.
Sigmah therefore defines an organisational unit as the geographical area (continent, country, region) within which a project is carried out. Organisational units therefore make up a tree structure with the heaquarters as the trunk.
