Sigmah was built on the basis of ActivityInfo and the Dynamic Compas which were funded respectively by UNICEF in the Democratic Republic of Congo and DG ECHO.
The Sigmah project is based on an economic model which aims to guarantee both its sustainablilty and its development. The model works on three funding levels:
1 - The major steps in the project's development are made possible through
external funding.
=> The development costs of this shared asset are kept to a minimum for the user organisations.
2 - Professional technical support can be given by private service-providers involed
in the development of the software from the beginning. The software's economic model does however ensure that any changes or corrections made by the technical support team
must be shared with all members, thereby contributing to the evolution of Sigmah as a shared asset.
=> The tool can be used sustainably and independently by each organization and their using
of the software also contributes to improving this shared asset.
3 - The durability and survival of the project is based on the involvement (in terms of financial and human resources) of the Steering Cooperative. Each member organisation contributes financially to a platform to maintain the collaborative development of the software, whether or not outside funding is received.
=> This model guarantees the fundamental sustainability of this collaborative project.
